Stone Fort Recap

Unable to pull off our annual trip to Hueco Tanks this last season, we decided to check out the Stone Fort (aka little Rock City) of Chattanooga, TN.  It was everything we could have asked for; the rock and the climbing were phenomenal, the hike was short (and believe me when you are hiking with a 3 year old this is a HUGE plus), and the crag is only 20 minutes outside of what we found to be an extremely cool town!

Though we had to keep the trips short and sweet, they were most definitely worthwhile! LRC houses some really amazing sandstone, and the lines are both fun and aesthetic.  Some of John's best sends included Red House Extension, Tennessee Thong, and Spyro Gyro to name a few (for a complete list of John's sends and reviews you can visit  http://27crags.com/climbers/johnkreft ), and some favorite climbs of mine included  Face in the Crowd, Sternum, Shotgun, and of coarse the ever classic Super Mario Brothers.

A few worthwhile notes on this area...  Don't count out climbing if you wake up and it is raining.  We experienced a 5 hour downpour one morning and were shocked to get a call from our friends telling us to come on out because the rock was DRY.  But if it does happen to rain all day, you can check out the awesome downtown aquarium.  It was a perfect rainy day activity and Conor absolutely loved it!  Also make sure you check out Aretha Frankensteins for breakfast and Urban Stack for the best burger or veggie burger in town!  And if you need a place to stay, consider  the Crash Pad http://www.crashpadchattanooga.com/ a "Chattanooga base camp for outdoor adventurers" .

Lastly, a nice little piece that John put together of the tiny bit of footage we managed to shoot when not spotting :)
